(Adopted May 4/02)
Tiki
Pekinese
Female/spayed/shots current
17 lbs
6-7 years old
Tiki is a love. She has a tail wag, and a quiet loving disposition.
She has selective hearing, I was trying to decide if she has some hearing loss,
but she hears the other dogs, hears doors close, so I think Tiki does things in
Tiki's time, much like an independent cat:-) She is housetrained, used my
dog door right away. She does not like small kids, so an adult home only. I took
Tiki to the ophthalmologist, and she needs help, she has Corneal Endothelial
Dystrophy. Her options are two types of surgery, one is medial
canthoplasty surgery, and involves shortening of the eyelid opening and rolling
out of the lower inside corner of each eyelid. (cost is $1100) Or nasal fold
resection, which the nasal fold is surgically removed, so the folds will not rub
her eyes. If one of these surgeries is not done, she eventually will be
blind. I cannot afford to do either of these surgeries, but will somehow
try to find funds. Donations for her would be greatly appreciated, or if
someone out there has any ideas, on how to help, I would greatly appreciate any
advice. I know that no one will be willing to adopt this wonderful girl,
unless this is corrected, but as an individual with no funds other than my
pocket, I have to figure out what to do. I will not allow her to go blind,
please help this girl!!!!!!!!!
*Ap.5/02 Tiki's expenses to date are:
eye exam $120
Vet exam $24
Grooming $20
Dental $179
Eye Surgery $880 (and thanks to my great ophthalmologist, the fee was reduced)
Tiki did not lose any teeth, a slight infection was discovered, and she is on
antibiotics. Which is great this was found out, as we do not want any
chance of infection, when she has her surgery for her eyes.
I am still
trying to find the solution ( the money) but will have the surgery done, on
April 10. I believe my charge card company loves me:-)
I want
to say a very special thanks to Kevin, who adopted sweet Riley, a great young man,
who met Tiki, and from his heart, gave a donation to help this girl.
Barbara from Oregon, who adopted one of my Lhasas a year ago, has also
lent her hand in helping this girl. I want to say Barbara has also become
my friend and crusader for the well being of rescue babies.
Sue from MA, you are a wonderful lady, who has watched my site, donated help for
Chibi, and now opened your heart to helping Tiki. Sue I hope one day I will have
the pleasure of hugging you, for all your caring.
Joanne, a vet tech at my doggie ophthalmologists, who has tried to help me in
every way she can for Tiki, and the others I have brought. A lady that
cares about these dogs with a passion.
Rose, for trying every way , to find a help for Tiki, a lady that adopted two of
my rescues and became my friend...and I love her.
Wende, who I am afraid I turned into a rescue crusader, and Wende you have
helped me more than you will ever know.
Jan from Edmonds, WA...a lady who has watched my site, and generously donated
for our Tiki, I thank you, and I loved the adorable card, which put a
smile on my face..thank you my friend.
Helen, from Portland, Oregon...Helen my words of gratitude for your generous
donation to help Tiki, I simply do not have the proper words to thank you
enough, for someone who opened her heart, to help dogs that need help...
Edna, from CA..thank you for helping this girl, you are a kind and gracious
lady.
Gretchen from Seattle, who just lost her beloved Annie, and in Annie's honor,
donated extremely generously for our Ms. Tiki. Annie is waiting at the
bridge, and thanking you for helping other furbabies in need.
Manuela, from Puyallup, who adopted my adorable Lhasa, Cubby, she went
canvassing to get donations, to help this girl. Manuela you are indeed an incredible
lady.
Cheryl and Michael, from Vancouver, WA. adopted beautiful Prince, donated so
generously to help Tiki, or others that needed help.
Carolyn and Dollie, (Lhasa) from NY, thank you for your generosity, Dollie is
lucky to have a Mom like you.
April 10/02

Tiki's surgery went very well, though she
did react badly to the morphine, and had me worried, with her panting and
heavy breathing, so we cuddled up on the couch, and rubbed her tummy, which
settled her, she was in a great deal of pain, with her lil whimpers. Her
eyes are very swollen and will be for awhile, and gradually her eyes will get
larger, but she will no longer have the large bulgy eyes from before. She will
continue with antibiotics and artificial tears till her recheck on the 25th.
April 11/02
Ms. Tiki is feeling better today, and I am sure the pain meds are helping her,
but she sure wants that cone off her head:-)
Apr.16/02
Tiki is back to normal, with her tail wagging, and hoping there is a treat
waiting for her, her eyes look so much better now.
Apr. 25/02
Tiki's eyes are excellent, the cone is off, she is happy, she will continue with
antibiotic drops till finished, and as a precaution, put artificial tears in her
eyes at nighttime. This lil girl will now have healthy eyes, and lots of
years ahead to see the world, and to be able to see, her new family, whenever
that may be. I know you are out there, just waiting for this girl, and she
is here waiting for you:-)
Tiki (nka Maggie) has a
super home, with a lovely lady named Karen, Karen did not even know she was
going to fall in love with this gal, till she saw her, saw her super lil
personality, and knew if you carried a porkchop in your pocket, she would be
yours forever. Maggie now can be seen walking the floors of a rest home,
wagging her tail, greeting the kind residents, who love to see her shining
face, and tail wag, that she loves to show the world, and at home, comfortably
sleeping in her favorite spot, or washing and babying the kittens, while Mom
Cat watches, and rushing to see Mom with a frolic and a laugh...my girl, who I
loved so much, and Maggie I loved you, and so many people watched and
cared. A dog that no one wanted, a dog that no one cared about, a dog
that now gives joy to so many others, a dog that had so much to offer, a dog,
that is now adored...a dog that is loved and gives so much back.....you are so
very special, and now you have a new live, a new Mom, and a big piece of my
heart...thank you Ms. Maggie, for putting a smile on my face, and a smile on the world...she was waiting for her new home, and
she found it.
* June 27/02, Unfortunately
this did not become the fairytale ending, that I had hoped for Ms. Tiki, her
Mom recently took a job, that required her to travel all the time, not
allowing her to care for this girl anymore...so she needs another good home...
(Readopted July 4/02)
This time Tiki went to
another splendid lady, and I found out something funny with this girl, she truly
is a snob, she has now two siblings, both pekes, and this was the first time I
had ever seen Tiki totally enamored with other dogs, she only likes her own
kind, what a snob...hopefully forever living in Snohomish, WA
* Sadly on April 6/04 Tiki (renamed Sadie) passed away in her sleep..she is
greatly missed by her Mom, and her peke friends...she was a gentle soul who had
a few good years in a great home...
