In Memory of Kirkie

April/93 - Oct.19/01

Kirkie came into my rescue in March/01.  He was a delightful boy, he loved his toys, he loved the outdoors.  He had his quirks, which made us just love him more.  He had his lil growls, which you learned to respect.  He was adopted to a wonderful young couple, and I learned even more about him.  He came alive in the outdoors, loved hiking, tenting, the beach, boat rides, snapping at bees:-)

He would love his walks, he loved to run, he loved life and with his adoption he learned to love again, he was special to all the lives he touched.  He touched mine very deeply.  The lives that were so touched by him were his new parents, he was spoiled and so deeply loved.

A tragic accident happened on Oct. 19, Kirkie was so excited about going for his walk, he lost his footing on a step, and fell.  That fall took his life, he broke his neck.  A freak accident that took his life too soon.  He brought so much love and laugher to his parents, they called me, their grieve overwhelming, why this would have happened, the why I do not know.  I was asked if he was now safe, the answer to that is yes, I know he is.  The lives I lose through abuse and neglect, I do believe these wonderful furbabies are taken care of, and we will see them again.

Kirkie was given another chance, and he got the best family any furbaby could have dreamed of.  I have always believed that fate brings certain people and pets into our lives for a reason.  This belief is again strengthened with Kirkie, because of him, I have met people that will always have a special place in my heart.

Have a safe journey to the Rainbow Bridge lil one, where you will have all the fun romping again while you wait for your Mom and Dad to join you one day.

I will lend to you for a while, a pup, God said,
For you to love him while he lives and mourn him when he's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or only two or three.
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you and (should his stay be brief)
You'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true
And from the folk that crowd life's land, I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love nor think the labor vain.
Nor hate me when I come to take my pup back again?
I fancied that I heard them say, "Dear Lord Thy Will be done."
For all the joys this pup will bring the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may
And for the happiness we've known forever grateful stay.
But should you come to call him back much sooner than we've planned
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try and understand.
If, by our love, we've managed your wishes to achieve
In memory of him we loved, to help us whilst we grieve,
When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another pup and love him all his life.
